Philosophising over Friendship
Close friend. Best friend. Childhood friend. Intimate friend. Trusted friend. Beloved friend. But whether you use adjectives or different words, few could deny the nearly infinite meaning in such a simple word.
Friends are special people. We can't pick our family, and we're sorely limited in the number of them at any rate. Society and often our own conscience make us select a single mate. But our friends can be as diverse and infinite as the adjectives we choose. Our friends, in a very real sense, reflect the choices we make in life.
Friends are just quiet angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly. Sõber ongi see vaikne ingel, kes tunneb sinu tundeid, aga jääb iseendaks.
The Friend Who Just Stands By
B.Y. Williams
When trouble comes your soul to try,
You love the friend who just "stands by."
Perhaps there's nothing he can do--
The thing is strictly up to you;
For there are troubles all your own,
And paths the soul must tread alone;
Times when love cannot smooth the road
Nor friendship lift the heavy load,
But just to know you have a friend
Who will "stand by" until the end,
Whose sympathy through all endures,
Whose warm handclasp is always yours--
It helps, someway, to pull you through,
Although there's nothing he can do.
And so with fervent heart you cry,
"God bless the friend who just 'stands by'"!
You Were Always There
by Zac
Whenever I needed someone to talk to
You were always there.
My eyes filled with tears,
my heart filled with pain,
and You were always there.
There was no time when I had doubt to come to you because
You were always there.
I could see in your eyes you wanted to help,
and that you really cared.
Whenever I was down and blue
You were always there.
No matter my problems, are what was wrong
You were always there.
Whenever I felt like nothing matters
You were always there.
Now your gone, and I don't know what to do
I close my eyes and think of you,
and how You were always there.
It's hard to look at the pictures, and get memories of you
Can you hear me now
At night I pray, and I speak to you
I guess you were right when you told me
no matter how far you were
You would always be there.
I know one day I'll see you again,
but till then I have to say goodbye
Even though it hurts to hear your name,
and speak of you
One thing I will always say is
You were always there.
